I've always loved Dahlia's character, and I am really excited that we finally get her story. She is Bailey Hartwell's best friend and a local artist and shop owner on the boardwalk in Hartwell. We've gotten to know her a bit in the previous two books, but only as a side character. Here we get all of the details about why she's closed off and detached. We come to understand why she is estranged from her family and what really happened to her. Her story is an emotional one, I really felt for her throughout the book.

Dahlia comes from a big Irish family in Boston. In her early 20's she met the man of her dreams, Michael, but things never seemed to fall into place for them to get together. When they finally decide to take a chance on their relationship, tragedy strikes leaving Dahlia feeling guilty and unable to cope. In order to deal with her demons, Dahlia runs away to Hartwell to start over without her family or Michael. No one but her father knows where she is for 9 years as she rebuilds a life for herself and deals with some of the things that have happened to her. Fast forward 9 years to the present, and Michael runs into Dahlia in Hartwell and our story unfolds. Dahlia must return to Boston to help support her father in his time of need, she also must face her siblings and tell them the whole truth about why she left and never came back. She also decides she needs to face Michael and tell him atleast part of the truth because she's never gotten over him. Unfortunately, she has so many fears keeping her away from truly letting him into her heart and her life.

Michael has never gotten over Dahlia. He doesn't deal well with their first several encounters saying some pretty hateful things to her. I could have done without that part. Dahlia eventually sticks up for herself and their explosive connection reignites. As they begin to reconnect and Michael learns the truth of why Dahlia left him, it becomes clear that she is holding back from a more permanent connection. He is determined to win her for good.

I really loved this, it took me about 24 hours to finish. I just couldn't put it down. I loved the characters. There was some dialogue that I could have done without, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. It fit well with the series and the setting. I hope there are more books to the series to come in the future, there are a few more characters we need to get to know. If you like heartbreaking stories, with a romance that was just meant to be, I highly recommend this one. I really enjoy this series. I feel like a member of the community and like I know everyone when I'm reading this series. It is like a warm hug coming back to Hart's Boardwalk.

I have had a copy of this for review forever.  The author was kind enough to provide all three books in exchange for an honest review.  I have a copy of the conclusion and I'm really looking forward to finding out how it all ends.

This is the sequel to Little Boy Lost. We follow Taylor and Wesley after they were lost in the library the day before and they come to find out that their actions the day before have had consequences not only in Oz but in their own world as well. They head back to the library to find The Librarian to fix what they have broken and reset the story and get their lives back. When they arrive at the library, the find that the Librarian has already returned to Oz to set things to rights, but his assistant Hope is there to help them. Hope isn't exactly helpful though. Taylor figures out what she needs to do to fix her mistakes from the previous day and won't let anyone stop her.

Also in Oz are Randy and Douglas and Bones, who have their own agenda. I'm still not 100% clear on what Douglas is up to, but I'm hopeful that will be all cleared up in book 3. Bones and Randy don't really play much of a part in this Wizard of Oz retelling. This is definitely darker than the first book which was fun and whimsical. This has a more YA feel while the first one had a more middle grade feel. Then again I haven't read the original Oz books so I'm not sure how dark or violent it is so I'm not sure if it compares.

I like the original take on a classic tale. The characters are decent and the friendship between Wes and Taylor is great. This does end on a cliffhanger like book 1, but I do feel like the story this book has to tell was complete. They finished what they set out to do, and while there is more to tell this part of the story was told. Book 3 is out now, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the tale ends.

O.W.L. Read-a-thon and TBR

So I keep seeing these O.W.L. TBR video's on Book-tube and I haven't watched any of them, until today.  I watched Pages and Pens TBR earlier today and realized I am missing out on an amazing and magical readathon.  So naturally I went down the TBR video rabbit hole, and I realized this is totally something I can do in the month of April.  Several of the O.W.L prompts fit right in with what I'm already planning on reading.

April TBR

It is rare that I'm actually all caught up on everything I need to read.  I have some ARCs that are due out in May and some others that I've had waiting to be reviewed so hopefully I can get to those.  I've got a bunch of stuff on hold at the library as usual, and I'm slowly making progress on my reading challenges.

Books/Ebooks/ARCs

• Unhappily Ever After (The Librarian #2) by Eric Hobbs
• I'm currently reading this now.  I've had a copy of this to review for quite a while, and I'm just getting around to it.  I have the 3rd one as well, and hopefully I'll get to that as well.  It is a little bit of a retelling and a little bit of a mashup of favorite fairy tales and classics.  The two main characters altered reality when they changed the classic Wizard of Oz tale.  They find that the people they know and even their own personalities have changed.  So far it is good, I need a good adventure story.
• The Guest Book by Sarah Blake
• The is due out on May 7th.  This is a historical fiction book set in the 1930's.  It sounded really interesting to me and appears to tackle a lot of tough issues that have plagued the US for a very long time.  
• Storm and Fury by Jennifer Armentrout
• This is the first book in a new YA Fantasy/Paranormal series.  If you have read The Dark Elements you will be familiar with some of the characters, as this is Zayne's story post Layla.  The Dark Elements is one of my favorite series, and I'm looking forward to seeing some old favorite characters and Zayne getting his own story.  If this is anything like the original you will have whitty banter, romance, gargoyles, demons, and who know what other manner of creature to take us on a crazy adventure.  This is set to release June 11, 2019.
• Things We Never Said by Samantha Young
• This is the third book in Sam's On Hart's Boardwalk Series.  Fans of the series have been patiently awaiting Dahlia's story for quite some time now.  We don't have to wait much longer as this is due out on May 7, 2019.  Dahlia is a local artist and she owns a local gift shop on the boardwalk.  We don't know much about her yet, but at the end of the last book Michael waltzed in and upended Dahlia's quiet demeanor.  I'm so excited to get to know them.

Audiobooks

I'm hoping to get Bloodwitch on audio (or in print) so I can finish it, but I've got a ton of other things on hold as usual.  The two I've got checked out currently are both to fulfil challenge prompts.

• City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab
• I really love Victoria Schwab/V.E. Schwab's writing.  I've been looking forward to this book for a while.  I started this yesterday and so far so good.  It is a middle grade/YA paranormal story about a girl who can see ghosts.  I love a good paranormal fantasy.
• To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
• I don't even know what this is about except it has won lots of awards, everyone speaks highly of this book, and it won the Great American Read vote.  It also has over 3 million ratings on Goodreads which is why I'm reading it.  I'm using it for my reading challenge prompt for a book with over 1 million ratings.
• Welcome to Lagos by Chibundu Onuzo
• I won a copy of this in a giveaway that Highbridge Audio was having.  It is narrated by Robin Miles, who is a fantastic narrator, and is about and African soldier who deserts his post, political scandal, and many other things.  This fits a couple of the challenge prompts, and from the few chapters I've listened to its interesting.
