My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was provided an arc of this book via the author, all opinions are my own.
This was an action packed romantic suspense! This follows Sam, a member of an elite black ops group known as the HAMR Brotherhood. They operate more covertly than the CIA and are highly trained and dangerous like Navy Seals. Hallene is not officially an operative, but she has some operative training and spends her time finding children that have gone missing. They meet when Sam is on a mission to find a kidnapped Senator and Hallene is on a mission to find her sister who has been kidnapped. Hallene has been captured and Sam steps in assist in her rescue. Neither of their missions are successful, and they split up, but Hallene is determined to find her sister. She knows she needs backup from someone more skilled on these types of missions so she tracks down Sam and they team up to go after both of their targets. Their mission is filled with twists and turns and is pretty action packed from start to finish.
Hallene and Sam's relationship is rocky at the start. They are attracted to each other but Hallene likes to be in control and she doesn't trust easily. Sam is used to working with a team where trust is an important part of their success. Once they soften around each other and start sharing information about their missions and start working together sparks fly between them fairly quickly.
I have not yet read the Slye Temp Black Ops series yet, and I feel like you can pick this up as a standalone without having read that series first. I have them and plan on getting to them especially after enjoying this one.
