Review: Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid

Marriage of Inconvenience Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. It is no secret I love Penny's books and this is no different than the rest of the series. It has quirky characters, banter, character growth, angst, and humor. I laughed so hard so many times. Sandra has some great lines in this book.

I normally don't like alternating perspective books, mainly because they are done so poorly. This was done very well and I think alternating between Dan and Kat was also necessary to tell their story. Kat is heiress to a very successful pharmaceutical company, however she ran away from home and hasn't been part of the family business until recently. We learn so much about her past and how much she's been through in her life. This explains why she is so quiet and reserved. It also explains why she is so flustered when it comes to Dan the Security man. Kat has to get married to save her fortune and the family business. Dan is the lucky guy and he and Kat have to work through some miscommunications, Kat's trust issues with people in general, and a whole slew of other stuff within hours of their marriage. Kat also has to deal with the fact that she isn't perfect and that finding the right partner means showing them yourself on your best days and your messiest days, and understanding that they will still love you no matter what.

Dan is awesome, he might be my favorite of the main characters in the series. I found him to be most like my own real life hero. He is kind, a bit gruff, broody, doesn't really care what other people think, loves his family, and he swears. Though I didn't think he was that bad, then again I was a sailor so I probably have a different tolerance. Anyway...Dan was patient with Kat, he pushed her when it was appropriate and backed off at the right time. He also fights for her when she needs him, especially in the case of her creepy cousin Caleb. Caleb is trying to take Kat's company and all of her inheritance from her for his own gains. Dan enlists the help of the knitters and the rest of the crew to help save the day and Kat's family business. Dan has some baggage of his own he's carrying around. We learn that he's got some unconventional thoughts on relationships and love that he's learned from his parents. Things with Kat start out as an arrangement, but they turn into so much more.

Their romance is a bit insta-lovey, since they go from an arrangement, to misunderstanding each other, to totally in love in a couple of days. Then again they've known each other for a few years, but they don't know much about each other. Their relationship feels right regardless of how quickly their love progresses. This is a solid romance, and another great installment to the series. The epilogue really brought everything together, and really closes the series off nicely.

Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new standalone in the USA Today bestselling, romantic comedy Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is coming March 6th!

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?
