This is a full-length novel, can be read as a standalone, and is the fourth book in the 'Knitting in the City' series.

There are three things you need to know about Ashley Winston: 1) She has six brothers and they all have beards, 2) She is a reader, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Former beauty queen, Ashley Winston’s preferred coping strategy is escapism. She escaped her Tennessee small town, loathsome father, and six brothers eight years ago. Now she escapes life daily via her Amazon kindle one-click addiction. However, when a family tragedy forces her to return home, Ashley can’t escape the notice of Drew Runous— local Game Warden, bear wrestler, philosopher, and everyone’s favorite guy. Drew’s irksome philosophizing in particular makes Ashley want to run for the skyscrapers, especially since he can’t seem to keep his exasperating opinions— or his soulful poetry, steadfast support, and delightful hands— to himself. Pretty soon the girl who wanted nothing more than the escape of the big city finds she’s lost her heart in small town Tennessee.

BLOG TOUR: Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid

Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new romantic comedy standalone in the USA Today bestselling, Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is available NOW!

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

Excerpt:

Staring at his chin, because I couldn’t quite lift my eyes any higher, I cleared my throat. “Should we get ready for bed?”

“Sure,” he said, his voice a rumble. Dan’s eyes were on me, I felt the weight of them.

My hands came to the hem of my skirt and I hesitated, feeling winded for some reason. Sneaking a glance at him, I immediately wished I hadn’t. His gaze was watchful, but it was also unmistakably hot in a way that seemed at once both avaricious and accusatory. The vice tightened around my lungs.

Kiss him! Just freaking kiss him! You want numbered steps? Fine. You kiss him- check. He kisses you back- check. Then you make out- check. Check the boxes.

I licked my lips, balling my hands into fists at my sides again, preparing to follow my hasty list.

But then he said, “Undress me.”

My breath caught. On instinct, my eyes lifted and collided with his in much the same way our bodies had collided at the top of the stairs just moments ago. Jarring. Startling. Thrilling. This time I couldn’t look away because this time I was falling. He made no move to catch me.

“What? What did you say?”

His eyes narrowed, which served only to increase the intensity of his gaze from smolder to inferno. “Take my clothes off.”

I stared at him, licking my lips again, and shaking my head. That wasn’t one of my steps.

Lifting my chin, I moved to kiss him. He leaned to the side, evading me even as his eyes dropped to my mouth.

“Take off my shirt and I’ll give you a kiss.” He’d used his naughty-secret voice.

An explosion of heat erupted in my belly, and now I was hot all over. I couldn’t figure out if the heat was embarrassment or arousal or both.

He didn’t give me a chance to figure it out. His hands lifted and he undid his cuffs; then they moved to the top button of his shirt.

“You better take over,” he said darkly, “or else you’re not getting that kiss.”

Review: Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid

Marriage of Inconvenience Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. It is no secret I love Penny's books and this is no different than the rest of the series. It has quirky characters, banter, character growth, angst, and humor. I laughed so hard so many times. Sandra has some great lines in this book.

I normally don't like alternating perspective books, mainly because they are done so poorly. This was done very well and I think alternating between Dan and Kat was also necessary to tell their story. Kat is heiress to a very successful pharmaceutical company, however she ran away from home and hasn't been part of the family business until recently. We learn so much about her past and how much she's been through in her life. This explains why she is so quiet and reserved. It also explains why she is so flustered when it comes to Dan the Security man. Kat has to get married to save her fortune and the family business. Dan is the lucky guy and he and Kat have to work through some miscommunications, Kat's trust issues with people in general, and a whole slew of other stuff within hours of their marriage. Kat also has to deal with the fact that she isn't perfect and that finding the right partner means showing them yourself on your best days and your messiest days, and understanding that they will still love you no matter what.

Dan is awesome, he might be my favorite of the main characters in the series. I found him to be most like my own real life hero. He is kind, a bit gruff, broody, doesn't really care what other people think, loves his family, and he swears. Though I didn't think he was that bad, then again I was a sailor so I probably have a different tolerance. Anyway...Dan was patient with Kat, he pushed her when it was appropriate and backed off at the right time. He also fights for her when she needs him, especially in the case of her creepy cousin Caleb. Caleb is trying to take Kat's company and all of her inheritance from her for his own gains. Dan enlists the help of the knitters and the rest of the crew to help save the day and Kat's family business. Dan has some baggage of his own he's carrying around. We learn that he's got some unconventional thoughts on relationships and love that he's learned from his parents. Things with Kat start out as an arrangement, but they turn into so much more.

Their romance is a bit insta-lovey, since they go from an arrangement, to misunderstanding each other, to totally in love in a couple of days. Then again they've known each other for a few years, but they don't know much about each other. Their relationship feels right regardless of how quickly their love progresses. This is a solid romance, and another great installment to the series. The epilogue really brought everything together, and really closes the series off nicely.

Review: Scenes from the Hallway by Penny Reid

Scenes from the Hallway Scenes from the Hallway by Penny Reid
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a cute place holder while waiting for Marriage of Inconvenience to release in a few weeks and a nice freebie book that Penny posted for Valentine's Day. It has 2 scenes I've read previously and 2 new ones that help us get to know Dan and Kat better, plus you get the first 3 chapters of their book. If you are caught up on the series like I am, this is a great transition to the next book because we know next to nothing about Kat. She is quiet and reserved. She speaks a bit more in Dating-Ish, but we don't really know her. Dan the Security Man, has been around since the beginning as Quinn's best friend, but again we don't really know him.

If you haven't read the Knitting in the City Series, what are you waiting for? This probably won't make any sense :).  Just kidding, all her books in the series are meant to be read as standalones, so go grab it and then get Marriage of Inconvenience when it comes out on March 6th.  I've already read it and its awesome.  Thank you for the ARC Penny and team at Social Butterfly PR.

This will only be around until March 17, 2018.  Grab it while you can.

Review: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Dating-ish Dating-ish by Penny Reid
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was so nerdy and funny. I loved Marie. I loved all of the science and robot stuff. I loved and hated how long it took Matt and Marie to get together. They were both so awkward, but their relationship really touched on friendship and companionship. In the beginning I wasn't even sure they were going to have a relationship because it started out so badly. But enter the knitters to push Matt and Marie together in an unforeseen way.

Penny did such a great job touching on human need and with Matt's research trying to replace human companionship with artificial intelligence the characters had some really thought provoking and intelligent conversations. I also found Marie's research for her writing assignment very eye opening. And finally it is filled with Penny's usually brand of humor, funny lines, quirky characters, and excellent banter between the characters. I think this may be my favorite in the series.

On to the review...Dating-ish follows Marie, a member of our favorite Tuesday night knitting club, a journalist, and a single lady who has had no luck with online dating. Marie has one final date lined up with someone who seems to be her perfect match. Enter Matt, he is not her perfect match and their date does not go well. She escapes the date and of course recounts the horrors of her date to the knitting ladies, who are of course present throughout the book. Marie discovers that Matt is Greg and Fiona's neighbor, and a frequent guest at their home as Fiona used to babysit Matt when he was a child. Marie discovers that Matt is working on artificial intelligence, specifically in the form of companionship robots. This sparks an idea for a story and she begins researching alternate forms of companionship outside of traditional relationships. Who knew all that stuff existed?  She also interviews Matt about his research on the robots and the two slowly become friends. They both know what they want or don't want from a relationship and resolve to being friends, but you know there is more between them. Things build up and pretty much explode after an agonizing wait, but it was well worth it.

This can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading the rest of the series.  Oh and read the Winston Brothers too, they are equally as good.

Scenes from the Hallway, an all new novella from USA Today bestselling author Penny Reid, is LIVE and as a special Valentine’s Day gift from Penny it’s FREE!

Synopsis

From the USA TODAY Bestselling romantic comedy series, 'Scenes from the Hallway,' Knitting in the City #6.5

You know who I am.

I swear too much, I crack too many jokes, and I got a thing for Kat Tanner; a messy thing, a distracting thing, a getting-in-the-way-of-everything thing; a thing that makes being in the same room with the woman torture. Sometimes it's the good kind. Mostly, it's not.

What you don't know is how it all started. You don't know how we met, you might not know what happened in Vegas (or the morning after), and you definitely don't know what happened after that.

You want to know the story before the story? Well . . . here you go.

But be careful what you ask for. As I've discovered the hard way, you might not like it.

'Scenes from the Hallway' is a companion short prequel/short story (11k words) for the upcoming book, 'Marriage of Inconvenience,' and includes the first 3 chapters of the soon to be released novel! ('Marriage of Inconvenience' releases March 6, 2018.)

WARNING This short story contains a lot of cussing. Do not download or read if you dislike curse words in novels. WARNING

Read Today for FREE!

If you are a UK reader or live abroad, never fear! Scenes From The Hallway will be FREE in time for an evening Valentine’s Day read!

Review: Beauty and the Mustache by Penny Ried

Beauty and the Mustache Beauty and the Mustache by Penny Reid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think this is my favorite of the Knitting in the City books to date. I loved getting to know the new characters. Ashley was always present in the other books, but she was never in the spotlight like Janie, Sandra, and Elizabeth. This is such a whimsical series, but this installment is a bit sad and sobering, but with a happy ending and a sweet romance.

The book starts out with Ashley, a spitfire of a character, giving who she thinks is one of her 6 brothers a "purple nurple" because they are revving a car engine early in the morning and she's only had a few hours of sleep. Much to her embarrassment, she's twisted the nipple of the attractive Federal Game Warden Drew who looks like a Viking marauder per Ashley's description. Ashley has flown home to Tennessee from Chicago to visit her ailing mother. Turns out her mother is terminally ill with cancer and only has a few weeks to live, and Drew has been entrusted with her mother's estate and medical care for several reasons that are revealed later in the book. This does not sit well with Ashley but she deals. Being a nurse practitioner and the only daughter, Ashely is determined to make every minute count with her mother.  Ashley is willing to sacrifice her personal wants and needs to ensure her mother's last minutes on earth are as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Drew is determined to make every moment count with Ashley as he is instantly attracted to her, but has zero expectations of a relationship with her as he knows her life is in Chicago. He makes her shower, eat, have philosophical debates, sleep, and repair the damaged relationships with her brothers.  He has become like another son to Mrs. Winston and a brother to the rest of the boys. He's handsome, quiet, and broody, but full of deep feelings. He's one of the good ones and Ashely eventually figures that out. Their romance slowly takes shape and smoulders for quite a while. It almost took too long to develop and for them to admit that they were in love.

I loved the addition of the whimsical Winston Brothers, and now that I know there is a spinoff series with the bearded brood I can't wait to read about them and their antics. The book is filled with the comical appearances of the Chicago knitting group.
