BLOG TOUR: Worth the Wait by Karla Sorensen

Worth the Wait, an all-new second chance small town romance from Karla Sorensen, is available now in Kindle Unlimited!

You know what I don’t have time for? The brooding, dark-eyed former love of my life showing up when my life is finally settling down.

I don’t have time for Hunter Buchanan and that intense look in his eyes. The way he loved me so perfectly all those years ago.

I’m the one who asked him to leave back then, my attempt at saving him from the chaos of my screwed up family.

I didn’t expect him back in Green Valley, looking better than before and with an empty ring finger. And I definitely didn’t expect him to still be in love with me.

I don’t have time for the things I feel around him, or how amazing it is when he touches me.

Most of all, for the broken heart I’ll have if I have to say goodbye again. I survived him leaving once before, but I don’t think I can do it again.

So there’s only one thing I can make time for… staying away from Hunter Buchanan.

‘Worth the Wait’ is a full-length contemporary romance, can be read as a standalone, and is book #4 in the Love At First Sight series, Green Valley World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

Excerpt from Worth the Wait

"I'm not your teacher," I said. "Right now, I'm just the guy who's supposed to make sure you don't have to go back to fourth grade. And that means honesty from both of us. And trust." I stood from the bench and held out my hand again. "You can trust me, Theo. But only make a deal with me right now if I can trust you the same way."

It never occurred to me, as a teacher and then later as an administrator, to talk to kids like they didn't have the same struggles as adults. They understood stress and fear and anxiety, albeit on a different scale, with different language behind it.

That scale changed as you grew up. Your responsibilities took on a different face, and you knew how to label those struggles. But to them—at their age—the responsibilities still felt like the whole world was pressing down on their shoulders. It didn't help if the adults in their life pretended otherwise.

So I knew I'd won something big when Theo Rossman stuck his skinny arm out toward me.

He gave me a firm handshake, his cheeks turning pink when I returned it.

"You sound like Iris," he said quietly.

My heart skipped unsteadily in my chest at his use of that name.

"Who's Iris?" I asked calmly. So very, very calmly. I'd only met one person in Green Valley with that name. And as far as I knew, she'd never come back. Not that anyone had told me, at least.

"My sister. I live with her." He tucked his hand back in his pocket, his face softening as he answered. His love for her, even if it wasn't my Iris, was immediately clear.

Behind my ribs, I felt a hot squeeze of pressure while my mind absolutely fucking raced.

"I knew an Iris once." I watched his face as I said it. "She'd probably be about thirty-two now."

His eyes narrowed, mental calculations evident in his face. "I think that's how old my sister is."

My breathing was choppy, my lungs struggling to pull in enough oxygen. "The Iris I knew ... her last name wasn't Rossman."

He kicked at a stick, so blissfully unaware that all my insides were jolting with unchecked pulses of electricity at the mere thought of it being her.

"Yeah, she's my half-sister. She had a different dad, so she has a different last name."

"What's your sister's last name?" I asked, fighting the urge to grab him by the shoulders and shake the truth from his mouth.

At the sound of a car, Theo's attention was pulled to the parking lot. In an instant, he transformed. Wide smile and happy, bright eyes as he waved at the driver of a beat-up-looking SUV. "That's her. Iris Black."

I swiped a hand over my face and tried to check my breathing.

Check my pulse.

My ability to stay fucking conscious.

This was it. All the sleepless nights I'd wondered if I'd ever see her again. Wondered how I'd ever walked away from her, why I believed her when she said she didn't have room for us in her life. If respecting her choice would damn me to a life that would always feel a little empty. Where every day held a slight edge of grief, something that might have worn down over the years but could still damage me if I caught it in the right way.

The last time I saw Iris Black, she wept as she told me to leave. That she couldn't—wouldn't—make room in her life for some great big destined romance. That she couldn't—wouldn't—believe that it was true.

The last time I saw her, I told her I'd love her for the rest of my life, whether she was in it or not. And I walked away all the same.

And there it was.

A gentle snap, a whisper-soft snick of something sliding back into place underneath my ribs. The shift of something that had been out of place since the last time I saw her. The realization came as quick as a thunderbolt and just as powerful. As I slowly turned toward the parking lot and she stepped out of the car, I knew this was the reason I'd come back to Green Valley.

It was her.

The one I'd loved since the moment I saw her.

Who I hadn't seen in twelve years.

The one staring at me like she'd just seen a ghost.

About Karla Sorensen

Karla Sorensen has been an avid reader her entire life, preferring stories with a happily-ever-after over just about any other kind. And considering she has an entire line item in her budget for books, she realized it might just be cheaper to write her own stories. It doesn’t take much to keep her happy…a book, a really big glass of wine, and at least thirty minutes of complete silence every day. She still keeps her toes in the world of health care marketing, where she made her living pre-babies. Now she stays home, writing and mommy-ing full time (this translates to almost every day being a ‘pajama day’ at the Sorensen household…don’t judge). She lives in West Michigan with her husband, two exceptionally adorable sons and big, shaggy rescue dog.

Review: Worth the Wait by Karla Sorensen

Worth the Wait Worth the Wait by Karla Sorensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was provided an ARC via the author and Smartypants Romance, all opinions are my own.

While this is listed as the 4th book in the Love at First Sight series, you can read it as a standalone. Each of the books in the series follows a different member of the Buchanan family as they navigate love and the family "curse" of falling in love with their soul mate the first time they meet. This particular story follows Hunter, who has been mentioned in the previous installments, and fans of the series have been long awaiting his story. If you are just starting with this book, I highly recommend reading the previous books, but you don't need to read them to get to know Hunter and Iris.

Hunter and Iris fell hard for each other in high school, but Iris' rough home situation caused her to push him away. Now after years of being apart and growing into capable adults, Hunter and Iris find themselves back in Green Valley at the same time and reunited by Iris' younger brother and ward Theo. Hunter never stopped loving Iris, but he's trying to respect her wishes to be friends and not push her boundaries. He knows that his big feelings for her scare her and she didn't grow up in a kind, loving, accepting family environment until moving in with her Grandmother. Iris still has feelings for Hunter, but she is 100% committed to taking care of her brother. That means getting her business off the ground and protecting him from their mess of a mother.

I loved Hunter and Iris together. Iris slowly comes out of her shell and into her own as she lets Hunter back into her life. I love how fiercely protective of her brother she is. I feel like the author did a great job describing Iris as a person who suffered at the hand of a manipulative and abusive parent, and still shoulders the burden of that. It is easy to criticize Iris and say she needed to let people in and help carry the weight of her burdens. That is part of her journey and I think it was portrayed very well. I felt like there was the right amount of slow burn and angst to this story.

I really enjoyed the side characters. Theo and Maxine were great additions to add some comic relief. I also enjoyed getting to see the characters from the previous books to let readers know what they are up to.

If you are looking for a bit of an angsty second chance romance, I highly recommend this one!

Release Blitz: Steal My Magnolia by Karla Sorensen

Steal My Magnolia is more than a love story. It's a beautifully crafted journey of life full of obstacles but a journey worth the travel with the right person.” --Author Andrea Johnston

Steal My Magnolia, an all-new heartwarming small-town romance from Karla Sorensen, is now available in Kindle Unlimited!

Life lesson from Grady Buchanan: If you’re going to fall in love with the untouchable girl in town, don’t hire her as your only employee.

Even after he bungled the interview with Magnolia MacIntyre, he knew better than to hire her. The list of why it’s a bad idea is a long one.

Her father could ruin his fledgling business.

She is completely overqualified.

And he’s attracted to her.

What does Grady do? He offers her the job.

Magnolia knew better than to take it. Normally, she’d make the safe choice, and working for Grady is anything but.

He’s new in town–and entirely too charming.

Her dad will be furious.

She hates the outdoors and working for an outdoor adventure company is not exactly the right fit.

What does she do? She says yes on the spot.

Grady and Magnolia will have to prove to everyone in their life that they’re not crazy. And prove to each other that the list of why it’s a bad idea should be tossed out the window.

For these two opposites, sometimes doing the wrong thing is exactly right.

‘Steal My Magnolia’ is a full-length contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone. Book #3 in the Love At First Sight series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

Review: Steal My Magnolia by Karla Sorensen

Steal My Magnolia Steal My Magnolia by Karla Sorensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received an ARC via Smartypants Romance in exchange for an honest review.  This book will be released on February 5, 2021.

This is the third book in the Love at First Sight Series (previously part of the Donner Bakery series), and follows Grady and Magnolia who are mentioned in the previous books but are mainly featured in  Batter of Wits.  Grady is Grace's twin brother and Magnolia is Tucker's ex-girlfriend which makes for quite the interesting love story.  I really loved this slow burn romance!

Grady has moved to Green Valley from California for a fresh start.  He hated his life behind a computer and has since traded it for a life in the great outdoors and has decided to start his own outdoor adventure company in Green Valley.  He needs some help with the office and organization side of the business so he can do the hiking and outdoor part of the business that he loves.
Magnolia is looking for a fresh start as well, she has been sheltered by her very loving family for much of her life and for once she'd like to make some decisions of her own.  She is a very capable person, loves her town, and is very good at what she does.  She has only worked for her overbearing and overprotective father for much of her adult life, which has made it hard for her to pave her own way in life.  When the opportunity arises for her to take on the role of office manager for Grady's new business, she uncharacteristically jumps on it. It is exactly the type of work she loves and despite the potentially awkward situation it will put them all in with Grace and Tucker, she needs to do something new and out of her comfort zone.

If you have read the previous books in the series, you are well acquainted with the Buchanan curse.  Each of the members of the Buchanan family, when they find their true love, fall in love instantly, and Grady falls for Magnolia the second she walks through his door for the weirdest job interview you've ever seen.  Magnolia is attracted to Grady, but she is still getting over her breakup from Tucker and while she isn't necessarily mourning the loss of the relationship and the man, she is still feeling loss and embarrassment for the life she pictured for herself and things not working out the way she had planned.  She is one of those people who has lists for her to do lists and has everything planned out, so when things didn’t work out with Tucker, she was left a little adrift.  Grady knowing that his family curse is kind of crazy and that he's her boss is willing to wait for Magnolia and doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize their working relationship, because she is pretty amazing when it comes to whipping the office and business into shape, and he doesn't want to scare her away.  When it comes to slow burn romances, this is the slowest of burns, but if you are patient it is worth waiting for.  They both tiptoe around their feelings waiting for the other one to make the first move.  Neither of them wants to make it awkward at the office, and it is already slightly awkward between Tucker and Grace.
I want to leave you with two pearls of wisdom from Aunt Fran when she is talking to Grady about his relationship woes, (mind you this is from the ARC and they might change but they are pretty perfect so I don't expect them to)  " Worry is like trying to win a race while you're sitting on a rocking horse. You'll move, all right, but you sure won't get anywhere good."  Grady is willing to wait for Magnolia for eternity, but patience doesn’t come easy when you are waiting for your soul mate to come to terms with a family curse, especially when you are trying to break out of a life where everything has been decided for you.  I love that Magnolia goes to her father for advice on how to maneuver through her feelings and that she doesn’t rush into anything.  Magnolia is a pretty wonderful character; she doesn’t let anything or anyone change who she is or her values.

and a few lines later

"And don't you even thing about leaving that dirty dish in the sink.  Every person who walks in this house knows how to open a dishwasher."  If only my family would put their dirty dishes in the dishwasher instead of the sink ledge.  This has nothing to do with the story or my review, I just thought it was a pretty great line, and every mom can relate.

I love the side characters.  I do wish Grace would stop punching Grady every 2 seconds, but having to sons who are practically twins, so I get it.  They are constantly punching each other.  Aunt Fran gives excellent advice, and while Magnolia's parents are polar opposites they are a great example of two people who love each other despite their differences.  I love the characters in this series and I'm very much looking forward to Hunter's book!
