Review: Black Tangled Heart by Samantha Young

Black Tangled Heart Black Tangled Heart by Samantha Young
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Words cannot express the emotional rollercoaster ride this book took me on!

It took me several days to formulate my review for this book.  Every time I sat down to write a review, I just couldn't come up with anything coherent to write.

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review. While this is part of the Play On series, it is 100% a standalone and you do not have to have read any of the prior novels in the series to dive right into this book.

This is a little different than other offerings from [author:Samantha Young|4167378].  This book almost felt like a romantic suspense, which is unlike anything she's ever written before.  It is significantly more angsty and dark compared to her other works, and I loved every second of it!  If you are triggered by darker romances, I’d skip this one as it deals with a few different things that might be triggering.  The main characters are pretty much thrown every bad luck situation that could possibly break them, and when they confront each other for their second chance their relationship tows the line of being toxic.  Fortunately, they figure out that alot of miscommunication, betrayals by their loved ones, and just plain bad timing is to blame for their circumstances.  They have always been drawn to each other like magnets, and once the truth of their sad situation is out in the open Jane and Jamie are able to begin to piece things back together.

I really liked how we got to see both Jane and Jamie develop as characters from a young age through adulthood.  The book begins when Jane is only a girl and Jamie is the untouchable older brother.  As the years go by and they both grow as people, they also grow closer.  They both have similar interests and values, but neither of them want to hurt Lorna, Jamie’s younger sister and Jane’s best friend.  I really liked watching Jamie inspire Jane to come out of her shell and stand up for herself.  This plays into her character much later when they reunite and she decides to take a part in his plan for revenge against those who wronged him and his family.  When she starts to do things out of character for herself, she again has to stand up for herself, this time against the person she loves most even if it means losing him again.

Samantha remains one of my favorite author’s and I hope to see more suspenseful writing from her in the future.  I’m a huge thriller fan, and I adored this!
