Review: Net Force: Dark Web by Jerome Priesler

Net Force: Dark Web Net Force: Dark Web by Jerome Preisler
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was provided an ARC of this book by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I listened to the final production copy of the audiobook.

I found the premise of this book to be very interesting. I thought this was a standalone in a long running series, but it definitely felt like I should have known the characters and their backstories going into this book as well as some of the plotlines. I'm not sure if that is the case, but it felt that way when I was reading/listening to the book. I don't think I would have taken the ARC had I known that it were part of such an established series. I feel that way because it doesn't end as a standalone. It ends as though you need to read the next book to find out what happens next.

Again I found the plot to be very interesting, but I lost interest because there were far too many plotlines and characters to keep track of. This made the pacing very slow and the book very long. I expected this to have a much faster pace considering it was a cyber security thriller. While in reality cyber attacks probably have many more people involved than we meet in this book, I think I would have enjoyed this had I not met every single player in the game. I would have preferred more developed characters, and perhaps they are more developed throughout the series as this is book 12 and I've missed out. I also would have preferred a more focused plot, this just jumped around too much for my taste and it was hard to keep track of who was who and what they were doing.
