This is the 3rd book in this series. I do feel you can read each of them as standalones. The other 2 books in the series are just as good and you'll get to know Gabi and Addy better. You will also get additional insight into the British aristocratic society. I've really enjoyed getting to learn about the aristocracy and how all of that functions through this series.

Eva is an aspiring artist and Matthew is an Earl. Neither one of them is interested in marriage or having a family, but if Matthew wants to keep the earldom he has to get married and attempt to have a male heir. While not fond of the archaic way things work, it is how his title works and he would like to keep his estate in his immediate family. He and Eva have been seeing each other casually for some time and he proposes a marriage of convenience. Eva is well versed in the aristocratic circles as her uncle is a Duke and her mother also has a title. While Eva isn't immediately thrilled by the idea of getting married and having kids, she likes Matthew and he offers to invest in her parents slowly failing hotel.

I really enjoyed this. It is a really sweet slow burn romance. Matthew and Eva have great banter throughout, and while their marriage of convenience starts out as a sort of friends with benefits relationship you always knew it was going to develop into something more. I really enjoyed watching them fall for each other. It was kind of refreshing that there wasn't some big angsty moment in this. I thought the author did a great job taking is on a tour of the island and the places local to Matthew's estate. I haven't done my research yet, but I hope these are real places you can visit. They sound wonderful and I'd love to go there someday. It is no wonder Eva always wanted to paint and sketch. I'd love one of her postcards, I'd totally order a set. I really enjoyed how kind and patient Matthew and Eva was with Eva as she settled in to her new home and new situation. I also loved his mother and grandmother. One of the things I always look forward to in Hart's books is a hilarious grandparent character, and Matthew's grandmother brought some comic relief to this book. I loved her!

This is the second book in the Aristocrat Diaries series and it was really cute. This follows Adelaide a teacher and writer and Alexander a Duke who spends his days managing his estate and his energetic daughter. I don't pretend to know anything about the British aristocracy, but this is a fun way to learn a little about how all of that works. Addy's uncle is a Duke and her mother holds a title, but Addy and her sister do not. They are part of the upper echelon social circles and understands how that world works.


Addy as I mentioned is a teacher, but she prefers to tutor individual students and smaller groups. Alex's daughter is struggling in school and asks if Addy will tutor her for the summer. It turns out Olympia has dyslexia and is being assessed for high functioning autism. Addy hopes that a diagnosis will help bring additional support and services to Olympia when she goes back to school, but in the meantime she is doing everything she can to be her biggest cheerleader. Due to the fact that Addy is spending so much time at the estate, she finds herself spending alot more time with Alex than she expected. It turns out they have many things in common and generally enjoy each other's company. While neither one of them was looking for a relationship, they can't deny that they are attracted to one another. Alex has to put the estate and Olympia first, so entering into a relationship with Addy doesn't seem wise. Addy also doesn't want to jeopardize Olympia's progress or her feelings. As you can imagine one thing leads to another and Alex and Addy end up developing feelings for one another.


I love that Emma wrote about her own experience with autism in her own daughter. Being a parent is hard, and all you want is what is best for your child. It is a constant game of advocating for them to make sure they get the best education and care, while also making sure they are making good choices and growing into decent, responsible humans. I could totally relate to some of the parenting moments in the book, we have had the occasional cereal explosion and flour mishap while baking. I really enjoy that she is giving us a glimpse of her life while also giving us a fun romance to enjoy.


I really enjoyed this book. It had good character development between Alex and Addy. While I wish they had talked about their feelings for each other a bit earlier, that would have made for a much shorter book. Communication between couples is something I appreciate in books, and while it took them a little longer to come around, they eventually got there. This had great side characters and had Emma Hart's signature humor. I'm looking forward to reading Eva's book next.

Review: Love Language by Emma Hart

This is a new series from Emma Hart following aristocrats in a small English town.  This follows Lady Gabriella Hastings, who is not what you'd expect.  She wants to go to college, get a job, and play in the dirt.  She loves plants and wants to design gardens as a career.  You wouldn't expect that from someone with a fancy royal title, but she is pretty down to Earth, loves the people of the town and her goal is to get a job doing something she loves.  She also has a huge crush on the grumpy head gardener that works on the estate that her father is responsible for.  She can't figure out why Miles (the gardener) doesn't like her when she's been nothing but polite to him other than asking him questions about the gardens and the plants she loves so much.  It turns out Miles is actually attracted to Gabi, but he doesn't think that his status as a commoner would mix with her aristocratic title.  This becomes quite the rift between them when they get stuck together at the estate during a pretty bad storm.  As they get to know each other, they realize that there is an attraction between them and that they do actually get along and like each other.  They both have to decide if they are willing to put class rules aside and go after what they want for the sake of their own happiness.

This doesn't have a ton of angst, though it is a little slow burn as it takes Miles a bit of time to figure out what he wants to do about having a relationship with Gabi.  He has to be told a few times to get over himself when it comes to his views on the aristocracy and what would make Gabi happy.  I really loved all of the side characters in this.  Emma Hart always finds a way to write in a hilarious parent or grandparent type of character in her books.  In this case it is Gabi's Aunt Cat, she provides some drama and comic relief throughout the book with her animals and banter.  Mile's grandpa was pretty awesome too, he gave great advice.  Gabi's friends and cousin were great side characters and I expect we will get books for them soon.  I thought the character development was good between Gabi and Miles.  Gabi decides what she wants and goes after it, Miles on the other hand is a little slower to take action but it is worth waiting for.  This has some great comedic moments.  It is fairly tame in the spice department, if you are looking for something super steamy this is not the book.  This is more slow and sweet with some kissing scenes.

This is set in modern day England and the author uses quite a few British terms for things.  I had to look up a few I didn't know, but I didn't really mind.  Most of the time they were really funny.  I actually really liked that it was set in England and that she used some elements of her real life in this book.  I know she has her own ducks and gardens and posts about them in her author group and on instagram.  

This was really fun and has all of the things I love about an Emma Hart book.  Great humor and lovely characters.  I can't wait to see more from this series!
